Barry Britton
Barry Britton is an accomplished pen and ink artist, sandetcher of glass, architect and interior designer. Barry is perhaps best known for his work with the Irish Intercounty Surf Contest and the Ballyshannon Folk Festival.
The Rossnowlagh Intercounties Surf Contest in Ireland has been running since 1968. Barry has created posters in his unique style for this event many times over the years. Here you’ll find a few examples of these posters & some illustrations of Barry’s unique take on the Irish surfing world.
The images on this site represent a tiny minute fraction of Barry’s work over the past 40 years. To see a full selection of his work or to commission work from the man himself, the best thing to do is to visit his gallery in Co. Donegal.
Across the road from the beach in Rossnowlagh you’ll find Britton and Daughters Gallery. On display you will find a vast array of artwork by both Barry and his daughter Easkey.
It’s best to ring ahead if you’re making a special trip as hours are very flexible. If the ‘Gone Surfin’ sign is up call back later - otherwise tap on window with the etched wave. Barry’s work is also available for purchase in Bundoran Surf Co and Fin McCool’s Surf Shop in Rossnowlagh. His Music Festival posters can be viewed at www.ballyshannonfolkfestival.com
