Gavin Gallagher
Was born a messer and and spent the first 20 odd years of his life getting into trouble and then talking his way out of it…School was a joke and he just about made it out of Rice College Ennis with a leaving cert. The world was his oyster… Or at least a job laboring on a building site with Dad…On his 21st birthday the young scoundrel was given a video camera as a gift from his parents.
Suddenly he identified with something more that any schooling ever had. This small piece of clever technology had caught his unadulterated attention more than any class room or droning teacher.
Gavin decided he wanted to follow a career in media and so blagged his way into a PLC course in Galway and spent the year partying, messing around with his video camera and building up a portfolio to present to an interview board at Ballyfermont College, Dublin.
Against all the odds 600/28 he was accepted into a TV and film course at the prestigious college.
After two more years partying and messing around with bigger video cameras he left the college with a pretty impressive HND in TV & Film Production.
He left Dublin for the bigger smoke of London and used his Irish charm to get into a job with Evolutions post production where he then went on to work as a camera & editing assistant on Top Gear. It was the dream job and Gavin developed a creative and energetic filming and editing style in this time.
However the place was full of people Gavin found “difficult” to deal with and so he could only could tolerate it for a year before moving home to unemployment & a long over due love affair with surfing.
After too long on the scratcher and no girlfriend in his new adopted home town of Lahinch he decided to apply for a job on a cruise ship.
After a few interviews and lots more pursuasive Irish charm, Gavin landed a job as a videographer and broadcast engineer with Royal Caribbean.
He spent 2 years traveling the world and filming postcard destinations. From helicopter glacier tours in Alaska to Whale Watching tours in Hawaii while surfing his brains out in every port and partying with a great crew!
In May 2005 Gavin decided to move back to Lahinch and set up his own video production company “Dreamcatcher” and begin work on an Irish surf film, “and then the wind died…”
5 years on and Dreamcatcher is a multi award winning video production company. Catering to the corporate, fashion and wedding market.
After five mind blowing adventurous years of travel and discovery along the west coast “and then the wind died…” is finally close to completion.
Gavin and Dreamcatcher are delighted to be affiliated with Emerald Surf Wear.
“You can travel the world and surf incredible destinations but your always guaranteed of one thing back home…
Wind, Rain, Stunning landscapes and light, empty lineups. After every tropical fantasy surf trip I dream of surfing Ireland, our land our waves our friends in the water. Just like our surf I believe in home grown quality and representing Emerald as one of it’s chosen artists”
